Ze final truck!

...arrived today. And with it came the windows so after the recent taste of cold weather we've been having (check out the last pic with the new snow on the mountains!), it'll be good to get the chalet sealed up and starting to get warm!

Okay... so where are we at?
  1. The balconies are finished, along with the finishing facades on the exterior (makes it look less like a monolith...)
  2. The roof is on and copper guttering is in place. The Lithuanians did an excellent job
  3. The interior walls are up and painted! No prizes for guessing who gets the blue room... :)
  4. The spiral staircase has been installed. Sorry, it's all covered in plastic at the moment to protect it but you can still get an idea of how it looks. We are delighted!
  5. The pine flooring upstairs has been laid
  6. The bathrooms are almost framed and closed up
  7. First fit on the electrics has been completed
And we're only 6 1/2 weeks into the build...

There is so much going on at the moment that it's proving hard to keep track of everything. The plan is that the 25th will be the Lithuanians last day so there 5 days of frenetic activity still to go - another floor to be laid; all the doors and windows to go in and skirting and finishing wood all round. But we're not far off!

Boiler arrives on Thursday. If we can just get Total Gas to come and install the citerne (tank) like they've promised, we could even start cranking up the heat soon!

Enjoy the pics.

Ooo.. er, it's about time!

...or maybe rather, the lack of it!

Yes, another crap excuse as to why I haven't been able to update the blog more regularly but I have been busy, promise! Actually, I really had no idea (I don't think either of us did) as to just how involved we were going to be on this project - from shopping around to get the best deals on everything from screws to taps and paint right down to the more mundane stuff like carting scaffolding around. It has been almost as hectic as when we first did Chalet Shiraz eight years ago. This time, though, it's enjoyably different as it's a NEW build and it's going to be our personal space so it's everything we could have hoped for.

Anyway, enough whittering, here's where we are right now :

  1. Staining of outside of chalet done
  2. Interior roof panelling completed
  3. Copper guttering started
  4. Underfloor heating for lower level installed
  5. Interior frame walls almost finished
  6. Velux windows, all 12 of them, in place
The east face of chalet, which will overlook garden

The North Face. No, not Everest, silly..!

Thomas has nailed Wilmatus to the underside of the roof, as you can clearly see here! Ah, no it's the copper guttering we're interested in

This will be the IKEA kitchen. Eventually...

Stud Wall City

Best underfloor heating system ever! 2 days to install; 15mm thick; no chape! Thanks, http://www.floorheater.co.uk/.

The last time I checked, we were about 1 month AHEAD of schedule. Tomorrow will be one month into the project. Which is nice... All things considered, we may be 'in' by the end of October. Tomorrow's also our 6th wedding anniversary. :) Even nicer..!

The roof arrives on Wednesday and the next truck, with the doors, flooring and staircase, on Friday. It's hotting up!

Cheers.
